01 / QUESTION

Creating Research Questions

Create the questions only space can answer.

Every new discovery begins with a new question.

We do not simply take research or technical challenges from Earth and move them into space.

What happens when gravity is no longer a given?

What phenomena can only be observed in the space environment?

By combining researchers, companies, and knowledge of the space environment, we create research themes that go beyond the conventional path of development.

LVNS SPACE PROJECT does not search for research themes in space. We

work with researchers to create questions that can only emerge through the use of space.

MODEL EXPLAINED / 読み解き

Turn technical challenges into research themes to pursue in space

We start with a company’s technical or research challenge, then combine dialogue with researchers and knowledge of the space environment. This is the entry point where we form a question, develop a hypothesis, test it on Earth, and connect it to a space experiment.

Illustration of research theme creation
ILLUSTRATED APPROACH / LVNS SPACE PROJECT
INPUT Company technical or research challenge
  • Materials and chemistry
  • Food and beverages
  • Healthcare
  • Living and environment
01

Open the question

We organize the Earth-based challenge and reconsider it after removing assumptions such as gravity and convection.

OUTPUT
  • Challenge map
  • Seeds of hypotheses
02

Design the research theme

We refine the hypothesis with researchers and turn it into a theme that can be scientifically tested.

OUTPUT
  • Testable research theme
  • Earth preliminary study plan
03

Connect research to proof

We confirm feasibility on Earth and define what should be observed in space and how the next experiment will run.

OUTPUT
  • Research results and data
  • Connection to a space experiment
OUTPUT A research theme worth pursuing in space
  • Research plan
  • Researcher implementation team
  • Preparation for a space experiment
TEAM DESIGN

Roles that grow a research theme

Leave a Nest Research Producer

Establishes the challenge as a research project

Space Nome Lab Science Lead

Guides the hypothesis toward sound research and experiments

IDDK Engineering Reviewer

Checks technical conditions and space implementation feasibility

IN PRACTICE

Starting points for questions

  • 01Technical and research challenges
  • 02Combining with the space environment
  • 03From hypothesis to research theme

We do not search for research themes. We create questions that can only emerge through the use of space.
